Obituary of Doris Elizabeth Kirkham
Passed away peacefully March 29, 2021 in her 101st year. Only daughter of Archie and Elizabeth Kirkham, Doris was born October 27th, 1920 in Natick, Massachusetts. Sister to Tom, she grew up in Boston and trained as a nurse during WWII. After joining the Navy in 1944, Doris had a daughter, Judith, the love of her life. Doris raised Judith in Wellesley Hills, MA, where she worked as a private nurse and caregiver for many families. Doris immigrated to Canada in 1981 to join Judith and Chris in Georgetown. Happiest when caring for others, Doris was known to spoil any child who came her way and spend extra time to make visitors feel special. Upon Judith and Chris' retirement, Doris joined them in travelling adventures all over North America. After losing Chris (2007) and Judith (2011), Doris developed deep friendships with special people at Durham St. and the Georgetown Marketplace. 'Gram' to almost everyone who knew her, she embodied positivity, radiated kindness, and loved television, ice cream and meeting new people. Doris leaves behind family and dear friends who are truly grateful for her presence on this earth. Grandmother to Amy, Sarah, Paul, John and Julie. Great Grandmother to Isobel, Kathryn, Elizabeth, Abbey and Ella. Special thanks to the PSW's that have cared tirelessly for Doris over the past 15 years and especially in the past few months. In lieu of flowers, donations to CAShh, CNIB, UCHS or charity of donor's choice. Cremation has taken place, with interment in Wellesley Woodlawn Cemetery to occur at a later date. Memorial service to be planned for the summer, when people can safely gather outside.
